MEEN VARUTHATHU / KERALA STYLE FISH FRY

A simple delicious pan-fried fish recipe. Best to be served with steamed rice. In all my fish recipes I use lots of curry leaves. this enhances the flavour of the recipe and healthy too. 



Prep Time: 10 mins   |  Cook time: 20 mins | Servings: 2 Person 



Ingredients :  For Marination :


·      Fish – 250 grams 
·      Turmeric Powder – ½ tsp 
·      Shallots – 4 nos 
·      Ginger – ½ inch 
·      Garlic – 3 nos 
·      Cumin Powder – ¼ tsp 
·      Chilli Powder – 1 tsp 
·      Tamarind Jucie – 1 tsp
·      Salt – for taste 

For Fry   :

·      Coconut Oil – 3 Tsp 
·      Curry Leaves – 2 strings 

  Method : 


  • Marinate fish pieces with salt and turmeric powder for 5 minutes 
  • In a mixer, add ginger, garlic and shallots 
  • Add salt required for the marination 
  • Add cumin powder and chilli powder



  • To blend them together add tamarind juice and grind into a fine paste 


  • To the marinated fish, add the masala paste and leave it for 5-10 minutes 

  • In a pan, add 2 tsp of coconut oil and curry leaves 
  • Place the marinated fish and fry on both sides on medium flame 
  • Add coconut oil as per requirement 
  • Serve hot with curry leaves
