Black Chickpeas Curry - easy version /
Kadala Curry /கருப்பு கொண்டைக்கடலை கறி
Ingredients
1 cup black chickpeas
1 green chili
2 tsp ginger garlic chopped
2 onion chopped
1 cup tomato purée
1/4 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp chili powder
Salt
2 bay leaf
1 cinnamon
2 tsp oil
Masala powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1/2 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp chili powder
1/2 tsp garam masala powder
1/4 dry mango powder
Method:
1. Soak chickpeas overnight/ 8 hours
2. Pressure cook for 5 whistles with salt, drain and keep aside
3. In a bowl, add all ingredients for masala powder and keep aside
4. In a kadai, add oil and temper with bay leaf and cinnamon
5. Add slit green chili and chopped ginger-garlic. Sauté for a minute
6. Add chopped onion, salt, and masala powder
7. Add sugar and cook until the raw smell disappears
8. Add tomato purée and cook for 2 minutes on medium flame
9. Add chili powder and mix well
10. Add 1 cup water and bring to boil
11. Add cooked chickpeas and mix well
12. Cook on a medium flame for 5 minutes on medium flame
13. Turn off heat and serve
